CAST For Kids fishing tournament at Folsom Lake 2023

Quoted from KRCA 3 in Sacramento:

With brand new rods and reels, with tackle boxes to match, children
and their families arrived one by one at Folsom Lake Sunday morning.

nothing that compares to it, these kids are fantastic,” said John
Hennecke. “These families are experiencing something otherwise they may
not be able to experience, it’s a big deal.”

Hennecke is with Cast for Kids, a foundation that pairs volunteer
anglers with children with special needs and their families, to spend a
day on the water fishing.

“I’m gonna go on that boat, I’m gonna go
on that boat!” yelled 4-year-old Grayson with glee as he was lifted out
of his wheelchair and onto a boat with his father.

“For children
with disabilities it really helps out a lot,” said Grayson’s father,
Steven Hoskin, explaining this experience was their first father-son
fishing trip.

Sunday morning, more than 20 children and their families loaded up in boats and spent the day on Folsom Lake in search of bass.

“This organization ends up becoming like a family, everybody here has
already greeted him, loved on him, and gives him a sense of normality,”
said Brenda Keen, as she held her young son.
